Guidelines for the China University of Technology International Student Scholarship


    Bachelor's Program

    • 50% reduction in tuition and fees for each semester in the first academic year (2 semesters).
    • 50% reduction in tuition and  fees for each semester of renewal for the 2nd to 4th academic year (3rd to 8th semester):
      • The overall average academic score and conduct grade in the previous semester must be 80 (inclusive) or above or ranked in the top 30% of the class.
      • Completed the 1-year Chinese license tutoring course and missed less than 1/3 of the class hours.
      • Obtain Test of Chinese Language Proficiency (TOCFL) Level B1 (inclusive) or above.

    Master's Program

    • 50% reduction in tuition and fees for the first semester.
    • 50% reduction in tuition and  fees for each semester of renewal for the 2nd to 4th semester:
      • The overall average academic score in the previous semester is 85 (inclusive) or above.
      • The number of missed hours in the previous semester did not reach 1/6 of the total hours in the semester.
      • Obtain Test of Chinese Language Proficiency (TOCFL) Level B2 (inclusive) or above.

    The following fees are estimated for one semester. There are 4.5 months a semester, and two semesters an academic year.

    Alien Resident Certificate

    R.O.C. Alien Resident Certificate (ARC)

    For international students, the Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) serves as their temporary ID card which can prove their resident status in Taiwan. It is a very important document and international students are advised to take good care of it and pay attention to its expiration date! Moreover, whether international students have entered Taiwan with Resident Visa or obtained Resident Visa through visa change within Taiwan, please remember to apply for the Alien Resident Certificate and Re-entry Permit at the local office of Ministry of Interior National Immigration Agency on the next day upon arrival or within 30 days of the issue of their resident visa.

    Foreign student Residence Permit Application 

    New foreign students holding a Resident Visa must apply for a Residence Permit within 30 days of entry. Please apply at the Ministry of the Interior National Immigration Agency.

    Foreign and Overseas Compatriots Students Online Application System

    Online application (The system operation manual and application instructions are posted on the website. Please refer to the website).

    Required documents 
    • E-file of photo. Photo specifications: 3.5cm x 4.5cm color photo on white background. Distance between top of the head and the jaw must be 3.2cm-3.6cm
    • Basic passport information page
    • Admission letter
    • Certificate of enrollment.
    • Certificate of accommodation.
    • Application fee: NTD $1,000 for Foreign Students, NTD $500 for Overseas Compatriots . (for a valid residency of one year)

    Residence Permit Application for Overseas Compatriots Students from Hong Kong and Macau 

    Within three months of entry into Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau, students holding entry permit must complete enrollment and obtain a certificate of health from the health center, and go to the Ministry of the Interior National Immigration Agency.

    Required documents

    • Certificate of resident status from Hong Kong or Macau.

    • Macao Police Records Certificate within the last 5 years (valid within 3 months, exempt from attaching to those under the age of 20 whose birthday is after August 31)

    Loss and Replacement of Resident Certificate

    • Foreign nationals:Apply through the Online application system for foreign and overseas Chinese students.
    •  Hong Kong and Macau overseas Chinese students : Apply in person at the local office of Ministry of Interior National Immigration Agency.

    Required documents

    • Foreign students: Passport, Student ID or certificate of enrollment, declaration letter of ARC lost or police report of loss of resident certificate, and application fee of NTD $500-$1000.
    • Hong Kong and Macau overseas Chinese students: Application form, original copy and one photocopy of Hong Kong and Macau personal ID card, police report or declaration letter of ARC lost, application fee of NTD $2,600.

    Resident Certificate Extension Application

    Within 90 days before the resident certificate expires, apply on the Student Online System of the Ministry of the Interior National Immigration Agency. (The system operation manual and application instructions are posted on the website. Please refer to the website).

    Starting from March 1st, 2024, the fine for overstaying will increase to NT$10,000 to NT$50,000. Please make sure to pay attention to the extension of your ARC.

      • 1-10 days: NTD $10,000
      • 11-30 days: NTD $20,000
      • 31-60 days: NTD $30,000
      • 61-90 days: NTD $40,000
      • over 91 days: NTD $50,000

    Required documents

    • Foreign students:Passport, resident certificate, certificate of enrollment, and application fee of NTD $500-$1000.
    • Hong Kong and Macau overseas Chinese students: Resident certificate, certificate of enrollment, application fee of NTD $300.


    Work Permit


    International students who would like to do part-time jobs or internships in Taiwan (either on or off campus) are required to have a valid work permit before starting work. Please note that if you hold a job without a work permit, you may be fined from NTD 30,000 to NTD 150,000 and expelled from Taiwan immediately. The maximum working time for International students is 20 hours per week, except during summer and winter vacation.

    The Ministry of Education (MOE) stipulates that to care for and track overseas students’ work-study situation, and to regularly track whether students have violated the Employment Service Act and other related laws. Please fill out the survey form before applying for a work permit. If you do not fill out the form beforehand, we will not process your application.

    Work Permit Period

    •  The period for applying for a work permit while studying has been amended to “up to 1 year”.
    • International students applying for a work permit during the first semester of each academic year, from October 1 to September 30 of the following year, may not have a permit period that exceeds September 30 of the following year. 
    • If a fresh graduate has already graduated, his/her work permit will be invalidated immediately.
    • A work permit loses its validity due to suspension, withdrawal, or graduation. Therefore, you may no longer work with the work permit, or you will be in violation of Article 43 of the Employment Service Act.

    Required documents

    • Upload unexpired passport
    •  Upload unexpired ARC file (front and back)
    • Student ID (both sides) with a current semester’s registered stamp or an enrollment certificate.

    Remark

    •  Hong Kong & Macao Students please select “ethnic Chinese Students” for your identity section in the Work Permit online application system.
    • It is recommended to apply for an e-work permit to save waiting time for postal delivery in addition to environmental protection.
    • After confirmation of the documents, a work permit will be approved and issued by the Labor Agency (Taipei Office). Please come to the ICA in 3-5 days after you receive the system automatic message or email from the Labor Agency.
    • The labor office will email and inform you of corrections if needed, please pay attention to the required correction period. An extra fee or re-application may be required if you haven’t done the correction before the deadline.
    • Students are allowed to work a maximum of 20 hours per week during regular semesters. This limit does not apply to winter and summer vacations during semesters. For more information,

    International students Medical Insurance


    Background and Regulation

    • Following Taiwan government regulations, international students must register for health insurance during their stay in Taiwan. Students staying in Taiwan with a valid Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) for over six months continuously must enroll in National Health Insurance (NHI). Prior to registering for NHI, we will automatically enroll you in Group Medical Insurance.
    • Note: If you would like to use another insurance that you have purchased from your home country instead of joining Group Medical Insurance, you must have the insurance verified by the Taiwan Embassy/Mission in your home country.

    Health Insurance for International Students

    • International students (including overseas Chinese students, students from Hong Kong and Macau and foreign nationals) who have an ARC and have stayed in Taiwan consecutively for more than 6 months could apply to enroll in the National Health Insurance, NHI. Those who haven’t been enrolled in NHI are required to enroll in Group Medical Insurance (currently Cathay Life Insurance Company provides insurance policy for international students in CUTe).
    • The Group Medical Insurance fee is NTD $3,000 per semester and is a non-refundable payment. The insurance fee will be included in the your tuition and administrative fees for each semester, and should be completed together before the payment deadline.

    Health Insurance Claims for  International Student 

    • Students pay for their medical bill first, then file the insurance claim by submitting the following documents to the International and Cross-Strait Affairs:
      • Compensation Application Form
      • Original payment receipt or the photocopy of the payment receipt with the original stamp from the hospital/clinic
      • Original certificate of diagnosis
      • A photocopy of the passbook from a bank in Taiwan
      • Upload unexpired ARC file (front and back)
      • Upload unexpired passport

    Insurance Coverage

    • Outpatient/Emergency treatment benefit
    • While this Policy is still effective, if the Insured suffers an illness or injury and receives (emergency) treatment at a hospital/clinic as an outpatient (Includes Diagnostic Fee, Prescription, Medicine Fee, Laboratory Fee, X-ray inspection Fee…etc ) , the company will reimburse all medical expenses incurred. However, the payment of benefit shall not exceed the limit of NTD $1,000 (per visit).

    • Daily hospital room benefit
    • While this Policy is still effective, if the Insured suffers an illness or injury and receives treatment at a hospital as an inpatient, the company will reimburse the following expenses incurred, the payment of benefit shall not exceed the limit of NTD $1,000 (per day):

      • Balance billing on hospital rooms.
      • Food, except for nutrients provided through tube feeding.
      • Nursing care fee excluding special nurse fee.
    • Hospital miscellaneous benefit
    • While this Policy is still effective, if the Insured suffers an illness or injury and receives treatment at a hospital as an inpatient, the company will reimburse the following expenses incurred, the payment of benefit shall not exceed the limit of NTD $120,000 (per hospitalization).

      • Physician instructions medication.
      • Blood, except for blood transfusions deemed necessary by a doctor providing emergency care.
      • Registration fee and cost of obtaining related certificates.
      • Hospitalization medical expenses exceeding those covered by the National Health Insurance.

    National Health Insurance


    International, overseas compatriot, HK and Macao students with ARC are required to join National Health Insurance after staying in Taiwan for 6 months continuously.


    Procedure of joining National Health Insurance
    • How to count the days of joining the insurance: Enter Taiwan with Resident Visa, and it will start since your entry date; for those with Visitor Visa or entry permit, it will only start from the date the visa has transferred to resident visa.
      • Without any departure after entering: Start from the entry date+6 months
      • Depart for once within 30 days:Start from the entry date + 6 months- departure days
      • Depart for once over 30 days: The resident days would start all over again, which means to start from the latest entry date and the rule would be followed as 1 or 2.
      • Depart for a few amounts of times: The resident days would start all over again; start from the latest entry date + 6 months- departure days
    • Fee (start from Jan 1st, 2021) : NTD $826 / month.
    • Overseas compatriot students are able to apply for insurance subsidy with low-income certificate at Office Of Student Affairs, and as the application is approved by Overseas Community Affairs Council, Republic of China, you would only need to afford NTD $413 / month.
      • Applying for NHI IC card: After being qualified, International and Cross-Strait Affairs will apply for it by your ARC. It would take around 7 workdays.
      • Having medical treatment with NHI card: You may have the medical treatments at any clinic or hospital once joining NHI.
      • NHI transferring or returning the fee: Once you have the other NHI from your workplace or internship, please come to International and Cross-Strait Affairs for transferring or returning the insurance.


    • All the fee and regulations mentioned above are followed by National Health Insurance Administration, Ministry of Health and Welfare.
