International & Overseas Chinese students stay in Taiwan after graduation


  • Transfer-out of National Health Insurance and change the purpose of staying (ARC) before graduation
    • Stay in Taiwan
      • Applying (changing) your ARC. Bring your photo, ARC, Passport and Diploma at immigration office.
      • The purpose of staying is "seeking employment" for maximum 2 year (international students)
    • Join NHI
      • You can join NHI at the district office before fining a job.
      • Without enrollment at district office, you will not able to use your National Health Insurance card. When you find a job, you may need to pay the previous insurance fee.
    • Withdrawal NHI from CUTe
      • Fall Semester until end of February, Withdrawal March 1.
      • Spring Semester until end of August, Withdrawal September 1.

Foreign students and Overseas Compatriots who have obtained an associate degree or higher in Taiwan, and are in the period of extended residency permitted by the National Immigration Agency (NIA) as fresh graduates, are exempted from applying for a work permit when engaging in work in Taiwan.  

  • Ways to stay in Taiwan after graduation
    • nternship after graduation
      • Meet one of the qualifications in Article 2 of Ministry of Education’s【Operation Directions Governing Applications from Overseas Compatriots, Students from Hong Kong and Macao, and International Students for Internships after Graduating from University/College in Taiwan】, and obtain a certificate of consent for internship from the proposed internship institution as stipulated in Article 3 of the guidelines.
      • Those who meet the requirements should pay close attention to the relevant announcements of the CUTe Office of Research and Development, and apply within the time limit.

    • Employment  after graduation
      • If you would like to seek employment after graduating, you may want to apply to be evaluated via a national point system. This system assigns a certain number of points to the applicant according their qualifications, as well as the criteria set for employers. 
      • If you meet the required points and score more than 70, then you may present this self-eveluation form along with other relevant documents, including graduation certificates and/or diplomas, labor agreements, curriculum vitae and certificates of foreign language abilities to the company or institute that would like to hire you.

        The point system evalutation includes academic records, salary levels, work experience, job qualifications, Chinese language and other foreign language abilities, as well as growth experience.

    • Employment  Gold Card
      • Foreign special professionals who plan to work in Taiwan can apply to National Immigration Agency for 4-in-1 employment gold card which includes work permit, resident visa, Alien Resident Certificate and re-entry permit. The Employment Gold Card is valid for 1-3 years. Employment Gold Card holders who meet certain conditions may apply for an extension within 4 months before the expiration date of their card, for a maximum of 3 years each time.
      • Qualification: Applicants may apply for an Employment Gold Card in the following fields: Science and Technology, Economy, Education, Culture and Arts, Sports, Finance, Law, Architectural Design, and National Defense.

        How to apply: Choose “Self-application”, “Apply by employer” or “Apply by agent” to login accordingly. For first time self-application of Employment Gold Card, register as a member by completing detailed information. A verification letter will be sent to your email address. Complete the confirmation and login to the system for application payment, submission of additional document, e-Entry permit and e-Receipt download, etc. Before applying, please check out the Taiwan Employment Gold Card website to find out more about the program and application process.
