Purpose of Establishing the Center

         In order to promote international cultural exchange, support overseas students’ learning, and enhance their Mandarin listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, China University of Technology established the Chinese Language Center in May 2017 (ROC Year 106) under the support of the Chairman, President, and Vice Presidents, within the Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs.

      The Center is located in Hukou Township, Hsinchu County, a key development area for Hakka culture designated by the Executive Yuan. Given its proximity to the Hsinchu and Taoyuan Industrial Parks, the Center emphasizes a “balance of technology and humanities” as its core feature, integrating local technological industries and Hakka cultural elements into the Mandarin curriculum. The aim is to develop a Mandarin program that is both locally distinctive and internationally oriented.

       With full support from the University, the Chinese Language Center is staffed with professional instructors and equipped with comprehensive teaching resources, focusing on the recruitment of overseas Mandarin learners. Currently, the Center offers systematic and diversified Mandarin programs tailored to learners of different proficiency levels and needs. The curriculum integrates technology and humanities, emphasizing the dual goals of language proficiency and cultural understanding. The Center also actively supports students in preparing for the Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language (TOCFL) to help them achieve their learning objectives. Furthermore, the Center is working towards becoming an official TOCFL CAT testing center in the Hsinchu area.

       In addition, the Chinese Language Center organizes cultural experience and exchange activities for overseas students and develops strategic partnerships abroad, enabling learners from around the world to gain an in-depth understanding of Taiwan’s local culture. Looking ahead, the Center will continue to enhance the quality of Mandarin education, expand international collaborations, and strive to become a high-quality platform for Chinese language education.
